All Nepal Trip : The Plan

It all started when I was thinking of setting off for Cycling trip to South Asia and at the meantime, a group named “Nepali Travellers” announced a travel challenge. One of their base criteria was that it has to be 60days plus and It has to cover a few major places inside Nepal.

I got excited and started a plan which includes cycling/trekking to reach every district of Nepal along with spreading some message for society. The outline was to

  • Visit every district of Nepal by foot and cycle
  • Stencil paint on public places
  • Conduct short discussions on school/college about the cause of the tour and spread the message
  • Spread positive message

With this in mind, I came up with 150+ days of the travel plan and applied for it. The first step of the challenge was to get highest facebook voting to get among top 15 from where the jury selection round will start. Maybe my plan was not interesting enough or not realistic enough or maybe due to the introverted nature of mine, I can’t get enough votes to proceed ahead.

Even after this failure from voting round, I can’t let go of this idea. What I thought was let’s do this trip before starting for international ground. Maybe the mental preparation during the planning phase engulfed so tight that I can’t let it go or maybe I want to complete the plan that I made public. Whatever the reason may be, it forced me to develop the following plan

  • Start on Aug 19th 2018, World Human Right day
  • Kick off from Dumre(Tanahun) to Besisahar(Lamjung). Go through Chame(Manang), Jomsom(Mustang), Dunai(Dolpa),Jumla(Jumla),Gamgadi(Mugu),Simikot(Humla),Martadi(Bajura),Chainpur(Bajhang)   — 57 days trek
  • Arrange cycle on Chainpur and cycle from there.
  • Cycle Darchula,Baitadi,Dadeldhura, Doti,Banke,Puthan,Palpa,Nawalparasi,Gorkha, Rasuwa, Kavre,Sindhuli, Bhojpur,Dhankuta,Illam, Sunsari,Saptari, Udayapur, Dhunusha, Bar, Chitwan,Kathmandu  — 77 days cycling
  • Manage to transport spray paints to district headquarters(bus parks) from Kathmandu/May need to switch to liquid paint
  • Prepare stencil “मानिस ठुलो दिलले हुन्छ…” and paint it on public places
  • Document experience of the locals regarding the issue, regardless of their opinion(pro or against)
  • Document the trip via Blog, Vlog etc

Based on my map/itinerary study, the summary of the trip would be like following

  • 77 District
  • 134 Days on the Road + 20 rest days = 154 days
  • 5260 KM (approx)
  • Cost: NRS 1,85,000/- (approx)

Detailed cost breakdown can be found here.

So it’s already July 17th as I am writing it, I am doing preparation like

  • preparing a durable stencil
  • talking with friends/family to get suggestions
  • to get trekking gears ready
  • deciding over cost-effective camera option.
  • thinking of a system to keep friends and family posted about the progress of the trip.
