So my camera needs to be light weight, durable battery and weather resistance. Besides, it needs to have decent sensor, usable fps, video capability and the possibility to upgrade lenses. And ya last but not least, it got to have reasonable price range. Keeping those criteria as base I ran mini research on internet and on friend circle(tiny circle or dot :P).
I looked from Canon 1200D to Nikon D3200, Nikon D3300, and Canon 700D. 1200D is a usable camera on the range of $380(NRS 38000) but with low capacity battery and the frame per second(fps) is just 3.
Going to Nikon, the battery and the fps got increasing along with the sensor size and ya the price. Nikon D3300(which I have now) has 5fps, 700 shoots per battery cycle, 24 MP sensor and the price range is $450(NRS 45000). It is not weather resistant. Camera with this feature will cost around $1000, so I omitted them.
Went a bit higher to Canon 700D. It cost $100 more for all the features of Nikon D3300 plus a touch and full articulated screen, and 18-140mm kit lens, while D3300 got 18-55mm kit lens. Going through the specs I found D3300 is the best for the price range. You could check at the snapsort review. Going through this and few other articles on internet, I decided to go for Nikon D3300.
Few features of Nikon D3300 the lead me to help Nikon sell one of their product are
- Light weight for travelling
- Panorama mode(I love panorama too much)
- Lasting battery
- 24 MP sensor
- 5fps
- Inexpensive and suitable for beginners
And ya I got my Nikon D3300 and started playing with it. Here are few snaps from it

That’a all for now. I am yet to go on adventure with this little friend. Will post more when I got chance to play it outside.
Most cameras in this class to date have struggled in one or more of these areas, but the Nikon D3300 checks enough of these boxes that we can confidently recommend it as the best option for a low-cost DSLR.
How much was the Nikon camera when you first bought it?
$400 at that time
