Hike : Nagarkot-Dhulikhel

After we(2 friends) decided to spend this Holi Festival(Hindu festival of colors) hiking, we picked Nagarkot-Dhulikhel as our route. That day was 22nd March 2016.
Early on the morning at 7:00 Am we woke up and meet at Koteshwork, from where we were to ride public bus upto Nagarkot. Due to the festival, there were few public transportation. Reached Kamalbinayak by a bus and then we waited for next bus which will took us to Nagarkot. But we came to know that there were no bus going to Nagarkot. Hence after having talk to locals there, we decided to ride a bus which will took a different route upto Kalamasi (3km to Nagarkot).
We reached there and we found another group of 3 going to Nagarkot. After a little talk they decided to hike with us. :).

Hence we walked upto Nagarkot passing through wonderful pine forest. Have some fun at the view tower located at Nagarkot pick. It was already 11:00 am and hence we had light lunch of the day. Potato with large sel(nepali donuts). At around 12:00 we left for Dhulikhel.
Being the well-known trail, the path was quite clear and there is no chance of getting lost although the path was most jungle. Taking occasional shortcut was kinda of risk and fun. Whenever the road bends we used to think about the possible shortcut. Once we end up on a dead end while taking such path. Hahaha.
Such shortcuts were sometimes assisted by the trail traced on offline map(maps.me app on android)I had on my phone. (Thank you openstreetmap)
On one of such shortcut we decided to take a shortcut route a pointed by the map but after a short walk ahead, the trail was not clear and looked like un-used path. In addition the accuracy of the location fixed by GPS on my phone decrease as the jungle get denser, adding more thrill. We continued and soon after we happened to meet the junction as pointed by the map. Anyway the jungle and the path was amazing.

After some time the trail goes through villages and we happend to meet many group having fun on color festival. Some of the kids were playing colors on group and some adults were having picnic together.

Around 1 hour after, we got to walk uphill and the most of the way was disearted, no trees, no sheds and mostly villages. But soon we saw our destination of the day, Dhulikhel. There were the mist around and due to which we can’t become able to see distace senerie. Anyway seening the destination was fun as always. More then that the path ahead looked nice due the the green forest and the clear path on the middle.

Beautiful way near Dhulikhel

At 5:00 pm we reached Dhulikhel, had some food and then we catched a bus to Kathmandu. On bus we happend to meet 2 hikers who had covered from Lubu(at southern Lalitpur) to Banepa. They were drunk a bit and where creaking jokes all the time till their stop. That adds up more fun to our team. 🙂

We are thinking of doing a similar hike to Dhulikhel from Nagarkot, but staying at a nearby monastery over night. Can you send me the name of the trail you walked so I can find it on my map? Also, was it easy to find a bus station in Dhulikhel to nearby places?
    Thanks.
